There is evidence all around us that a major shift has been taking place for awhile now. If you are like me, you easily recognize such extreme issues, but you are also pulled to them. Something deep down inside of you is frustrated by problems that you perceive, and you have been stirred up for a long time now, like a runner awaiting the starting pistol. That is your destiny, and it is telling you that now is the time.
In my own life, I have been in a season of intense instruction for the past decade. The Bible makes it clear that all of creation, including us, exists in seasons and cycles. And I see a new door opening, to transition from one season to the next, and it is marked by battles and choices that we must engage. I perceive I am in a defining moment, where the choices I make right now will decide the trajectory of the rest of my life, and I don’t think I am the only one. Maybe you can relate.
In a "Kairos" moment like this, I thought it might be necessary to review all that I have learned in the last season and take inventory of what God has put on the inside of me and illustrate this so you may do the same if you can relate to what I am saying. What follows is instruction from scripture that I discovered during this past season; the Word of God is my standard, and His word trumps my own feelings or experiences. What I feel is subject to what He says, and this wisdom is right out of His book. If you sense that you too are in some sort of invisible movement from an old thing into a new thing, I hope this will bring you peace and set a standard for you too.
The hardest lesson I ever had to learn was, not everyone that starts out with you will finish with you. The truth is, there will be very few relationships in our lives that are meant to go the distance. I love the metaphor of a bus driver: he drives his bus from point A to point B no matter who gets off or gets on. He is focused on his destination, and when somebody leaves, he does not chase them down and demand to know why they're leaving. And he also does not character-assassinate anyone who leaves his bus. Some people just stay on longer than others. When someone chooses to get off your bus, LET THEM WALK.
We need to be focused on purpose this season, and this will also require us to know which battles to fight. If a fight presents itself, and it does not threaten your destiny, do not engage. If there is nothing to be won, don’t fight. I don’t know about you, but I have lost a lot of time in my life due to distractions and fights that were really not necessary, and I can't afford to miss any more opportunities because of pride or ego. You have a purpose to fulfill and that needs to be your target.
The book of Proverbs compares three types of individuals: the wise, the fool, and the scornful. It compares the wise to a spider. Why? Because a spider knows that everything it needs is already withing itself. If it needs food, it has a built-in way to catch food. If it needs a shelter, it already contains what it needs to build a shelter. And if you tear his house down, he will recover because he can build another one with what he already has. We should recognize that God created us each with all that we need already inside us, and our walk with Him is basically a journey of Him revealing what is already there. If you feel called to a problem area, it's because you have the answers to that problem on the inside of you.
The Bible says we have three different kinds of seed: money, decisions, and words. If you don’t like the harvest in your life right now, you can make a new tomorrow with the seed you have today. Put another way, tomorrow's harvest is a result of today's seed. If you are looking at your bank account and it doesn’t look like a harvest, then you're probably looking at seed. And you can't expect a harvest of you don’t sow any seed. How dumb would it be for a farmer to go to his field and expect to see corn growing when he never planted any corn?
Your words have more power than most of us realize. Anything you speak to will live, and anything you stop speaking to will die. If you want a relationship to die, stop speaking to it and see what happens. Conversely, if you desperately want your past to die and go away, stop talking about it. Whatever you speak to will live.
Finally, my standard for truth has taught me that I can only see what people do. I have no ability to know why they do what they do. This is why scripture forbids me from judging a person, because only God knows a person's heart. I don’t know what they have been through or how they have come to see life through a certain lens. But sometimes God will let you in on a person's history, and when this happens, you will find it very difficult to continue judging that person. It bothers me about our society that we can demand all kinds of mercy and grace for ourselves and our situations, but we won't give that same gift of grace to someone else in their situation. Imagine our daily lives if we kept our own bad choices in mind when we see someone do something we don’t like. You have done crazy stuff too!
This is universal wisdom, and it applies directly to the marketplace, to education, to politics, or to business. In my own life, this wisdom will change the game in the way we conduct our justice system. A change is currently occurring, for me and everyone I have spoken to. You are called to a purpose, to some problem that only you have the answer to. You possess new ideas and creative concepts and strategies that will bring innovation to areas that are currently experiencing decay and destruction. And I challenge you to take your own inventory so that you will give birth to all the potential you are carrying.
