Choose the hard path

By now you have been attacked and tested in every conceivable way and in places that you did not even realize you were vulnerable. The enemy has been allowed access to you during this season for the purpose of God showing you who you are and what you have inside of you. He also wishes to make known who He is in your life.

You have probably become painfully aware of every reason why you should just move on and play it safe and try again with someone else. But you always return to the idea that you are meant for this fight. So if you won’t leave despite the pain of staying, you might be tempted to choose a road that seems safer and a lot easier. I can just about guarantee that in the next few weeks or maybe even right at this moment a new door is presenting itself right in front of you. A new person may have come into your life who is speaking all the right things and making almost too much sense. Their words appear to be wise and they might have even been in the same situation that you are currently in. And though their words are desirable, you know deeply that they do not match the words you have already received concerning the one God promised He would heal. For me, it was a person who had once been broken and lost like the one I was standing for. They had the same story and background and had once made a home at rock bottom. But when I met them, they were whole and healed and everything that I had ben praying for in the life of the one I was assigned to. Surely God would bless this relationship! The hard part was already done. Maybe this was God’s way of giving me everything that I had been praying for. I wouldn’t even have to fight in prayer anymore because all those things that seemed like areas that need to change are already gone in this person! Why waste any more of my time?

If I were standing right in front of you in this moment and you had just made your case to me about why God must be answering all your prayers through a new person, I would lovingly grab you by your shirt collar and declare to you the word of the Lord: “He who began a good work in you WILL bring it to completion!” (Philippians 1:6, emphasis and exaggeration mine). I would also ask you the question that God asked Adam in the garden when Adam began to question if God had been holding out on him: “Where are you?”

It is so important for your walk and relationship with God that you choose the hard path right now. In order for you to experience the level of grace and adventure that God is leading you into, you MUST wade into the deepest part of your soul and all it’s fears. You have to stay in over your head if you ever want to see God move. Your own flesh hates being uncomfortable, and your mind will tell you all the reasons why you should bail out, why there is a better way and a better plan. This will cause you wonder if God would have led you all this way just to abandon you and let your dreams die at a dead end. Abraham and Sarah fell into this trap, and although God’s plan came to pass anyway, much heartache and drama ensued because they believed they had found a better way. The reward for obeying and following God into deep waters is a greater awareness of His peace, and knowing you are where you are supposed to be. You will reach a new level of trust with Him and your loved one when you both get to experience His miracles right before your eyes, exactly the way He told you.
